ECA Elementary Staff

Mrs. Pam Firks, BA Music Education from Truman University, graduate work in Administration
Mrs. Firks taught in Missouri prior to moving to the USAFA with her husband. She has been a long time member of Village Seven Presbyterian Church, and began teaching elementary music in 1992. In 1999 she was asked to become the elementary principal and has been blessed to serve in this capacity. "My prayer is while loving and nurturing our students, we can also guide them in discovering their love for God and the gifts He has given them."

Music
Mr. Rob Howard B.S. in Music Ed: Eastern Nazarene College Masters of Music, Choral Conducting: Butler University
Mr. Howard began teaching music at ECA in 2006. He comes to us after teaching elementary music at St. John's Episcopal Church since 1997, where he created a comprehensive music curriculum that served all students in the K-8 school. He believes that music permeates the senses, captivates the mind, and opens the door to the soul; and that God's love, His Word and the traditions of faith and worship can be brought into the classroom in order to develop a biblical worldview.

Physical Education
Mrs. Susan Hart B.S. in Education: Emporia State University
Mrs. Hart has taught 1 year of high school science and 3 years in elementary school before serving on the "Athletes in Action" staff from 1986-1990. She coached the first ECA varsity girls' basketball team from 1987-1991, and has been a volunteer youth sports coach for several years. She is thankful for the opportunity to teach, and continue using the PE program to teach Christian character and appreciation for effort, teamwork and sportsmanship. She has been at ECA since 2002.

Library
Mrs. Sandra LaCerte B.A. in Political Science: Colorado State University M.A. in Educational Media: Univ. of Northern Colorado
Mrs. LaCerte began working at ECA as full-time Librarian-Media Specialist in 1991. She believes that biblically, the main premise of teaching in a Christian school begins with the foundation that all-true knowledge and wisdom comes from God. Because the written word can be a powerful medium to proclaim knowledge and wisdom, it is important to use God's standard, His Word, as the measure of truth. Since this holds true at ECA, she has developed a library media program that will encourage good reading, develop information skills, and assist our staff in doing their best.
Instrumental Music
Mrs. Treese Kjeldsen Bachelor of Music Education: University of Northern Colorado
Mrs. Kjeldsen has been directing bands at ECA Elementary since 2004. She has taught band, choir, general music, and has taught flute at Multnomah School of the Bible, Columbia Christian College, and Warner Pacific College, as well as performed on a national level with NFA Professional Flute Choir and Oregon Flute Ensemble. She has served as principal flute with Oregon Symphonic Band, Portland Chamber Orchestra and has had an active flute studio for over 30 years. Currently she performs with Pikes Peak Flute Choir, Mandocentrics, and Village Seven Presbyterian Choir and Orchestra. Mrs. Kjeldsen feels blessed to be working with the ECA band students and believes that they are "pre-music-ministers" whether they use their musical education as performers, worship leaders, or enthusiastic congregants..
Pre-Kindergarten
Mrs. Laury Doane B.A. in Business: emphasis on Human Resource Management; Psychology minor from Colorado State University
Mrs.Doane has been an aid in Pre-K at ECA since 2004; she began teaching in the fall of 2006. She has a heart for families raising children and sees Christian education as an extension of the home and church. Her desire is for each child to feel the love of Christ in the classroom so they may grow to their fullest potential as a child of the King in our world.
Kindergarten
Mrs. Theresa Becker B.A. in Elementary Education: Fort Lewis College
Mrs. Becker has taught first through fourth grades in the Aurora (Denver) Public Schools. She has been at ECA since 2002, teaching Full Day Kindergarten. She loves children and considers it an awesome privilege to be a teacher at ECA and share God's love.
Mrs. Karen Stephens B.A. in Elementary Education: Dordt College M.A. in Teaching: Grand Canyon University
Mrs. Stephens has taught kindergarten and first grade at ECA since she came in 1987. She attended a Christian school from kindergarten through grade twelve and then went to a Christian college. Mrs. Stephens still remembers many of her elementary teachers and knows that their love and commitment to the Lord helped her become the person and teacher she is today. Therefore, it is her desire to teach with the same love, commitment and enthusiasm that they had. It is also her prayer that each child who enters the classroom will thoroughly enjoy learning and love serving our Lord in all that they do.
First Grade
Mrs. Pam Gergen B.A. in Education: University of Northern Iowa
Mrs.Gergen & her husband moved to Colorado Springs with the military. Over the years, she has had many years of teaching experience. She has been teaching at ECA since 2007, and she is honored to be a part of the ECA staff, as well as being a postive influence on today's young children and helping build godly character in each of them.
Mrs. Irene Rhodes B.A. in Psychology: Eastern Mennonite University M.Ed. in Counselor Education: James Madison University Ed.S. in Counselor Education: University of Virginia
Mrs. Rhodes has been at ECA since the winter of 2004. She has previously taught Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten as well as substituting for grades K-5; she has also worked as a residential counselor for emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children; and as a counselor for a crisis pregnancy center. Her goal is to encourage the excitement young children have for learning.

Second Grade
Mr. Dale Hart B.S. in Elementary Education: Michigan State University M.A. in Educ. Technology: University of Colorado
Mr. Hart has been teaching over 18 years and has taught at ECA since 1989. When teaching children, Mr. Hart thinks it is critical to cultivate godly character and teach the "whole" child: spiritually, mentally, physically, socially and emotionally. He loves to be involved with, and minister to children's hopes fears, accomplishments and challenges.
Third Grade
Mrs. Darla Blue B.S. in Elementary Education, Minor in Music: Chardon State College
Mrs. Blue and her family have been involved with ECA since 1988. 2006 was her first year back, as a full time teacher. She enjoys being in the classroom setting, where she feels like she can impact students personally, spiritually and academically. She considers it a privilege to work with children and help them develop as a whole person, to their fullest potential, to be an integral part of His Kingdom.

Fourth Grade
Mrs. Kathy Flack B.A. in Elementary Education: Adrian College
Mrs. Flack has been teaching at ECA since 1993, and is excited to teach fourth grade this year. She believes it is a special privilege to teach at ECA, and to serve our Lord by ministering to the young people He has put in our care. Mrs. Flack enjoys sharing God's power and goodness in His word in the classroom. She prays for the strength to glorify God in all she does and all she teaches, as stated in 1 Timothy 1:12.

Lichlyter09-10

Fifth Grade
Miss Anne Lichlyter B.A. in Elementary Education: Covenant College
Miss Lichlyter has been teaching at ECA since 2000. She spent 14 years as a student at ECA, beginning preschool in 1982 and graduating in 1996. She feels blessed to have the opportunity to be back at ECA and work with some of the teachers who taught her and impacted her life. Miss Lichlyter enjoys teaching and prays the Lord will continue to faithfully work in the lives of both her and her students.

Sixth Grade
Mrs. Sarah Goldschmid B.S. in Business Administration: University of Tennessee/Knoxville
For over 15 years, Mrs. Goldschmid has taught pre-school to junior high students in the church setting. Mrs. Goldschmid began working at ECA in 2001 as a kindergarten aide, and has been teaching 6th grade since 2002. She considers it a privilege to now teach at ECA. Mrs. Goldschmid desires the classroom to be one of academic excellence as well as a place for students to grow in their relationship with God.
Mrs. Tricia Harbach B.A. in Psychology and Business: Hardin Simmons University
Mrs. Harbach has been a part of the ECA family since 1990, and her children currently attend ECA. She has been working at ECA since 2004. Mrs. Harbach is thankful for the opportunity to invest in the lives of her students. She prays that her heart for children and her love of our Lord will be evident in her classroom.
