Understanding, Reasoning, and Persuading in Truth

Classical-Christian-Omnibus_BooksClassical education is the cultivation of wisdom and virtue.  Christian classical education is the cultivation of wisdom and virtue for the purpose of knowing, loving, and enjoying God and loving one’s neighbor.  So, why Christian and classical education?  Does classical education need to be Christian?

For Christians, the answer must be “Yes!”.  In fact, Deuteronomy 6:7 and Ephesians 6:4, teaches us that as Christians, we must diligently teach our children in light of God’s Word at all times and that we are to bring them up in the “discipline and instruction of the Lord”.  The education of our children must be aimed towards the end that they might become (by His grace) ones that “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might” (Deuteronomy 6:5).  A classical education that is devoid of the truth found in God’s Word is, by nature, an education in which one must form the habit of consciously ignoring the truth while in a feigned pursuit of it.  Such a habit contradicts Scripture which teaches us to “take every thought captive to obey Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5).
